How to Handle Negative People
December 16, 2010 No CommentsIn life as in the dating world you will encounter negative or “toxic” people. Misery loves company and they want you to be as miserable as themselves so they can feel better about their situation. Don’t get sucked in. Nobody wants to date a Debby or Doug Downer.
Don’t tell your date or anyone you first meet your health issues, your money troubles, your work stress or about the fight with your mother. Everyone has their own struggles and stresses in life, they don’t need yours. Be cheerful and leave those unpleasant things for your very close friends and family for now. If you’re not fun why would anyone want to see you again? There is a time and a place and first time meeting with anyone is not the time to air your life woes.
When you find yourself on a date or meeting someone who looks at everything completely negatively take a deep breath. Then be thankful you aren’t going on and on about all the bad things in your life. Silently tell yourself one good thing in your life for every bad thing they throw out at you. Be polite, listen and try to move the subject to lighter topics such as music, movies, and books. You can’t change them, let alone over the course of a few hours date.
