Kahiki’s Bowl & Roll Review

January 31, 2017 No Comments

I love trying new things, especially if they are tasty and super easy microwave meals.  I just tried the Kahiki’s Bowl & Roll General Tso’s Chicken with Egg Roll Frozen Meal Review

The egg roll was tasty.  The dish itself was so-so.  It had some heat to it.  Not a lot of flavor and the chicken was little pieces of what I could describe as left over fried chicken cut up into little pieces.  They weren’t generous with the chicken, which isn’t uncommon.  After a bite, I was left with the heat* on my tongue, but no real flavor.

It was a semi decent portion even though most of it was rice.  Rice is cheap, throw some more in there!

The plastic was very hard to remove from the bowl.  I like microwave meals that cook all at once and for one length of time.  This one you had to stop in the middle of the cooking time to stir, after fighting the amazingly well glued plastic from the top.  Then when it was done you had to cook the eggroll separately too.  So, you basically have to hang out around the microwave for 10 minutes.

Also the bowl itself has these fancy ridges in the bottom.  Why?  Unless it has anything to do with heat distribution and cooking time, just make the darn thing flat so I don’t have to fight to get the rice out of those ridges.

Sorry Kahiki, for the price I probably wouldn’t buy it again.  At almost $3 for an individual meal the portions weren’t great, the cooking difficulty (when I say difficult, I am talking about the amount of steps to microwave it.  I do understand it’s still way easier than making this from scratch) and the flavor just didn’t do it for me.

*Just an FYI, I don’t eat things very spicy, I’m a mild girl mostly.  Unless there is some great flavor with the heat I usually pass on hot or spicy food.  While this was as spicy as I would comfortably eat, this would be mild to many.
